Dear Parents, Guardians and Family Members,
Welcome, and thank you for your interest in the PTSA. To make the most of this year for our students, the PTSA seeks to work with you, the teachers, administrators and other members of the Silver Spring International Middle School (SSI) community whom we rely on to educate our children. Through your contributions and volunteer hours the PTSA supports the school, teachers, students, and community in many ways:
Communicating with Parents, Teachers, and Administration
-
Informing you about student opportunities and events at SSI and the community, through this web site, newsletters, the SSI PTSA e-mail discussion list, meetings, notices, calls and translations
- Publishing an annual Student Directory to help connect parents and students
- PTSA meetings on the second Tuesday of October, December, February, March and May which include an update from our principal. See our schedule of meetings and events
- Assembling the SSI Parent Handbook to answer common questions about our school
- Regular meetings with the
principal, the Counseling Department and others.
Supporting/Enriching the SSIMS Environment & Education
of our Students
- Financially supporting academic and arts enrichment in the classroom including teacher mini-grants, residencies, and community art projects
- Providing Cultural Arts Enrichment activities
for each grade level
- Partnering with the school to ensure academic success and educational excellence for all students
- Advocating at the county level to get all the resources and support we can for our school and students.
- Coordinating the volunteer activities in the
classroom, front office and SSI grounds. Please visit our Volunteer Opportunities page to see current volunteer needs.
Celebrating Our Diverse SSIMS Communnity
- Organizing community events such as International Night, Hoops for Hearts, and Parent Socials for students, their families and the SSI community
- Partnering with local businesses and arts organizations to expand opportunities for all students at SSI.
Please consider supporting the teachers, students and their education by becoming a member of the PTSA. Everyone is welcome, and your dues and donations provide a substantial portion of our budget. Even if you can't volunteer for classroom or fundraising activities, you can support SSI by simply becoming a member. The more active you are in your child's education, the more important education will be to your child. Everyone can participate at any level, from becoming a PTSA member to volunteering in the school, from attending meetings to providing leadership.
