EXECUTIVE BOARD
The NOMINATING COMMITTEE is seeking enthusiastic parents to fill the SSIMS PTSA Executive Board for the 2005 - 2006.  Executive Board positions include:  PRESIDENT, 6th GRADE VICE PRESIDENT, 7TH GRADE VICE PRESIDENT, 8TH GRADE VICE PRESIDENT, SECRETARY, TREASURER, and FINANCIAL SECRETARY.

MCCPTA REP
This individual represents the SSIMS PTSA at the monthly Montgomery County Chapter of the PTA. The MCCPTA represents the interests of all the PTA/PTSAs in the county, testifies before the county school board, county council, etc. Cindy Kerr is the President of MCCPTA at Cindypta@worldnet.att.net


DROP IN VOLUNTEERS
Just stop by the the small workroom (located inside the front office, past the teacher mailboxes) where boxes are set up to for teacher requests for clerical or classroom volunteers. Please remember to sign in at the front office, and log your volunteer hours into the notebook located in the small workroom. 
  • Book Donations: Your  generous donations of gently used books and magazines have been absorbed into the classroom libraries.  Next time you are at school, see the note of thanks from teachers on the PTSA bulletin board.  Volunteers are needed to arrange for additional donations to SSI from employers, neighbors, or religious organizations.
  • Hall Monitors:  Come be a positive presence in the school.  Volunteer to be a hall monitor.   Help with the transition between classes and at the beginning and ending of the day.  The critical times for hall monitoring are  before school:  7:25-8:10 a.m., after lunch:  12:40 - 1:15 p.m., and  after school:  2:30 - 3:10 p.m.  For information on becoming a Hall Monitor, contact Holly Harness at haharness@starpower.net
  • Media Center: Ms. Randolph can use volunteers to help shelve books in the media center.  Drop in at any time.
  • Student Conduct Committee:Contact Emily Sudbrink at ee.sudbrink@verizon.net if you would like to be a part of this exciting new parent initiative to build a safe and nurturing learning environment for every SSIMS student.
  • 6th Grade English Literacy Circles have begun and will continue once a month.  Your child's teacher would like to offer snacks on the meeting dates.  If you can help by providing snacks for 25 kids, please contact your child's English teacher or Lisa Gabriel at (301) 593-4358 with the name of your child's teacher and class period and the month.  Parents are also invited to attend the literacy circles.
  • Volunteer Coordinator: Ms. Urbanek is the staff volunteer coordinator.  Work with her to help identify needs and get the word out to parent volunteers.  Contact Ms. Urbanek or Lisa Gabriel at  (301) 593-4358 if you can help
